Evolution explains how species change over time through natural selection. Charles Darwin, a British naturalist, introduced this concept in his book "On the Origin of Species," drawing from his observations during extensive travels, including stops in Australia and South America.

Yet, he wasn't the only one. Alfred Russel Wallace, another British biologist, also had similar ideas, but they didn't gain as much recognition. French biologist Jean-Baptiste Lamarck suggested a different theory, where traits are passed from one generation to the next.
